Sizing your PRO VEST® Rib Protector
- Measure the circumference of your torso at the ribs (i.e., your rib cage), remembering to keep the tape measure level and taut.
- Decide if you would prefer to wear your rib protector slightly open in front, such that there is a gap in the protective padding over the stomach, and if so, how large of a gap, in inches.
- Subtract B from A to obtain your adjusted rib cage measurement.
- Don your shoulder pads and use a tape measure to determine what the respective vertical height measurements of the foam padding and plastic plates in your rib protector need to be in order to cover the area of the torso below the shoulder pads you want to protect.
- Using the information from C and D above, select the rib protector size you want in the chart below. Since each rib protector size covers a range of sizes, you may actually fit into 2-3 sizes; as such, giving careful consideration to the information from C and D above, select the rib protector size you want in the chart below. If you cannot locate a rib protector size that you believe will provide you with adequate protection, please contact us about custom-sized rib protectors using the Contact link on the Home Page. Please note that we do not recommend purchasing a rib protector size larger than your actual, unadjusted rib cage circumference obtained in "A" above (e.g., if your rib cage measures 30 inches, don't select the size 32 rib protector).
If, for example, your rib cage measures 34 inches and you would prefer to wear you rib protector with a 3-inch gap in the front, over your stomach, look in the chart for the rib protector sizes closest to your desired size (31 inches), which would be either the size 29 or the size 32 rib protector. Thus, the closest you would come to your desired size would be to wear the size 32 rib protector with a 2-inch gap or the size 29 rib protector with a 5-inch gap.
If, for example, your rib cage measures 30 inches and you would prefer to wear you rib protector closed, with no gap in the front, over your stomach, look in the chart for the rib protector size closest to your desired size (30 inches), which would be the size 29 rib protector. Thus, the closest you would come to your desired size would be to wear the size 29 rib protector with a 1-inch gap.
If, for example, your rib cage measures 40 inches, you would have the option of wearing either a size 40 rib protector (and having no gap in the front) or a size 36 rib protector (and having a 4-inch gap in the front).
If, for example, your rib cage measures 48 inches, you would have the option of wearing either a size 48 rib protector (and having no gap in the front), a size 44 rib protector (and having a 4-inch gap in the front) or a size 40 rib protector (and having an 8-inch gap in the front).
